August 1, 2019 – Stir Concert Cove – Council Bluffs, IA
If anyone ever tells you that Hip-Hop is dead, have them attend a Wu-Tang Clan concert! The group invaded Stir Concert Cove in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Thursday night August 1st, and from start to finish, they had concertgoers energized and on their feet. The hot temperature outside had no bearing on attendance as long-time fans packed the outdoor venue.
The show started with DJ J Sake, who got the crowd hyped up with a sample of Aerosmith’s “Dream On”, and a few other hip-hop favorites before introducing Scholito, a rapper based out Philadelphia. Scholito had a grin from ear to ear, and kept telling the crowd how excited he was to be there. The crowd at Stir seemed to love his energy, and they went berserk after he performed an unbelievable freestyle rap. Awesome opening act!
Next to the stage was rapper King Kahali who notes Killer Mike and Bob Marley as his major influences. Kahali performed for over a half hour, and the crowd loved his style, which can best be described as a mix of Hip-Hop, Rap, and Reggae. After a brief intermission, Wu-Tang Clan took the stage. The group is currently traveling around the United States dubbing their concerts as “36 Chambers: The 25th Anniversary Tour.” Their 25-song setlist included samples and covers from The Beatles, Rick James, House of Pain, Nirvana, and every track from their 1993 release, “36 Chambers”. They had the crowd singing along and waving their hands from side-to-side for over two hours. The group has released four gold and platinum studio albums and was named “the number one greatest Hip-Hop group of all time”, by About.com, and this concert proved why. Method Man, in particular, was a big hit with the crowd, and when he appeared on stage, fans went ballistic. Old Dirty Bastard, one of the bandmates that passed away in November 2004, was mentioned several times, and the group paid tribute to him throughout the night. Concertgoers definitely got their money’s worth from this show!
