Marc E. Bassy & Friends Turn Up The Heat

February 11, 2022 – The Slowdown – Omaha, NE

February 11th was a cold night in Omaha, Nebraska, but Marc E. Bassy and his friends turned up the heat at the Slowdown.

Hundreds of fans packed the venue to witness Bassy, an entertainer that previously wrote songs for CeeLo Green, Sean Kingston, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla Sign, and others, perform some of his hit songs, and a few new ones.  He had three opening acts that set the tone for the night.

First to the stage was Big Trip, a New York-born, Colorado rapper.  This kid is legit!  Trip hopes to bring a new flavor to the hip-hop/rap scene, and so far, he’s not disappointing.  He’s got a unique sound that blends his New York swag with West Coast vibes.  With almost 20,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone, he’s making big waves in the industry.  Trip was the perfect person to start the show, and got the crowd hyped up and wanting more.  He even made a special appearance later in the show to perform alongside headliner, Marc E. Bassy.

Next to the stage was Rae Khalil, a female rapper from Los Angeles.  Khalil made waves when she appeared on the 2019 Netflix series Rhythm + Flow.  Heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder and Erykah Badu, Khalil hopes her music can help people and bring a sense of joy.  With over 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, her music is definitely making people take notice.  She had great energy, sounded great, and it was apparent how much she loves performing.  For me, the standout song in her set was, “Allstar”, but her whole performance was great!

After a brief intermission, Hot Flash Heat Wave, an indie rock band from Davis, California, hit the stage.  The band seemed really mellow, but their music was great.  Their sound has been described as “surfer pop meets post punk” and “dream pop.”  The band first met in high school, and released their first album, “Neapolitan”, in 2015.  Since then, they’ve released two more full albums, and amassed a huge following.  They have almost 22,000 followers on Instagram, and over 620,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone.  The trio played for about 40 minutes, and my favorite songs were, “Gutter Girl”, and “Raindrop.”  They had the crowd waving their hands in the air and singing along, and were the perfect choice to get the crowd ready for Marc E. Bassy.

San Francisco Bay Area native, Marc E. Bassy took the stage, and the crowd went nuts.  Bassy started his music career as the lead singer of 2AM Club, but eventually went independent, releasing his first album, “Gossip Columns”, in 2017.  Since then, he’s released two other full-length albums, numerous EP’s, mixtapes, and singles featuring some of the biggest names in music.  This was my second time seeing Bassy live, and he didn’t disappoint.  He’s got great energy, catchy songs, and a very loyal fanbase.  He played some of his older songs, and a few newer ones that had the crowd at the Slowdown on their feet, singing along, and dancing the entire time.  If you have the chance to see him live, do it!  You won’t regret it!
