Talk about a 90’s flashback!
On Friday night September 11th, the I Love the 90’s Tour made a stop in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and it was a nostalgic night to remember!  Thousands of fans packed the Denny Sanford Premier Center to see some of their favorite 90’s icons.  The headliners for the show were Vanilla Ice, and Coolio.

The night’s entertainment kicked off with Tag Team, who’s best known for their 1993 smash hit single, “Whoomp! (There It Is)”.  Tag Team consists of Cecil Glenn and Steve Gibson, and the duo’s won a Kid’s Choice Award, and been nominated for an American Music Award, and a Soul Train Music Award.  They still have a following after all these years, and have over 430 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify.  Tag Team was a great way to kick off the show!

Next to the stage was C&C Music Factory featuring Freedom Williams and the beautiful Smooth Jammy.  The group has great chemistry and infectious energy.  In the short amount of time they were on stage, they performed their most popular hits, “Here We Go (Let’s Rock & Roll)”, “Things That Make You Go Hmmm…”, and “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)”.

British-born Young MC, was next to the stage, and after a small audio malfunction, he hit his groove and had the crowd on their feet.  Young MC burst onto the music scene back in 1989 with his debut album, “Stone Cold Rhymin’”, which featured his iconic hit single, “Bust A Move”.  He only performed a few songs, but the crowd was singing and dancing the entire set.

Up next was crowd favorite, California native, Tone Lōc.  He hasn’t aged a bit, was all smiles, and had the audience waving their hands in the air and dancing in the isles.  Tone’s debut album, “Lōc-ed After Dark” was released in January of 1989, but his iconic voice and hit songs still resonate with music lovers today.  He was having a lot of fun on stage, and performed all of his hit songs, including, “Funky Cold Medina”, and “Wild Thing”.  At the end of his set, he even invited a huge group of female concertgoers on stage for an impromptu dance party!  It was great seeing him live.

Montell Jordan, best known for his 1995 smash hit, “This Is How We Do It”, was up next, and the females in the crowd went crazy.  Jordan looked great, and was dressed to the nines.  Jordan left the music industry in 2010 to become a pastor, and took a few moments to give some motivational words to the crowd in attendance.  He performed his well-known hits, including, “Somethin’ 4 Da Honeyz”, and “This Is How We Do It”.  His set was a lot of fun, and brought me back to my high school years!

The male R&B and Pop group, All-4-One was next to the stage, complete with matching jean outfits and sparkly red tennis shoes.  The group was given ample time to perform their hit songs, “I Swear”, “I Can Love You Like That”, “So Much In Love”, “She’s Got Skillz”, and others.  The group is still producing music, and just released an album this year.  They have over 1.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and have won a Grammy Award, an American Music Award, and have been nominated for numerous other awards over the years.  They all looked and sounded great, and their songs had everyone on their feet with their cell phone flashlights on, singing along to every word!  

New York native Rob Base was up next, and along with his DJ, DJ E-Z Rock, had the crowd on their feet.  He’s best known for his two smash hits, “Joy & Pain”, and “It Takes Two”, which was a Top 40 hit, and went certified platinum.  He’s been entertaining crowds and producing music since 1987, and has over 576 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify.

After enjoying some iconic 90’s entertainers, it was time for one of the headliners.
Coolio, dressed in a stylish maroon tracksuit, took the stage accompanied by a few band members.  The crowd went nuts for the rapper, and from the moment he set foot on the stage, had everyone in the arena singing along to his iconic hit songs.  His debut album, “It Takes a Thief”, was released in 1994, but in 1995, his smash hit, “Gangsta’s Paradise” skyrocketed up the charts and won him an American Music Award, and a Grammy Award.  He’s also won numerous MTV Video Music Awards, appeared in movies, commercials, and television shows.  Coolio has over 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and it’s well deserved.  He’s been entertaining fans for the better part of two decades.  He performed all of his hit songs, gave a touching tribute to his nephew that recently passed away, and kept a somber energy throughout his set.  It was amazing seeing Coolio live and in person.  He’s truly a 90’s icon.

After a brief moment to reset the stage for the next headliner, Vanilla Ice hit the stage, and the crowd erupted.  This guy hasn’t aged a bit.  He looked and sounded great!  Born in Dallas, Texas, Ice hit the music scene in 1989 with his debut album, “Hooked”, but it wasn’t until a year later when his new record label re-released and reformatted the album under the name, “To The Extreme”, which became the fastest-selling hip hop album of all time, that his notoriety skyrocketed.  Ice won 2 American Music Awards, a People’s Choice Award, a Golden Raspberry Award, and was nominated for numerous other awards during the height of his music career.  He performed all of his hits, but the crowd really went nuts for, “Play That Funky Music”, and the chart-topper, “Ice Ice Baby”.  He had great energy, and was all smiles for his entire set.

The I Love the 90’s Tour was an absolute blast!  If it comes to a city near you, make sure you check it out.  The sheer nostalgia alone, is worth the price of admission.
