Third Eye Blind Wows Fans in Omaha

November 26, 2019

If you’re a fan of laser lights, smoke, video screens, and Alternative Rock music, the Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska was the place to be on Tuesday night November 26, 2019.

The night’s entertainment kicked off with Smallpools, a Los Angeles-based, Indie Pop band.  Smallpools, formed in 1993, consists of Sean Scanlon, Mike Kamerman, and Beau Kuther.  Having never heard of the band, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised.  Scanlon, the lead singer of the band, had a lot of interaction with the crowd, and the trio put on a great performance.  A few standout songs for me were, “Mother”, a catchy break-up anthem, “People Watching”, a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”, and “Killer Whales”, where the band threw an inflatable whale into the crowd.  Smallpools was a great choice to open the show, and did a great job of getting the crowd hyped for what was about to come.

After a brief intermission, the lights dimmed, smoke filled the stage, and the crowd went crazy as Third Eye Blind took the stage.  Led by lead singer, Stephan Jenkins, band members, Brad Hargreaves, Kryz Reid, Colin Creev, and Alex LeCavalier, all assumed their positions, and opened their set with, “Thanks a Lot”, from their 1997 debut album.  Their fifteen-song set included hits from their past albums, as well as new tracks from their 2019 release, “Screamer”, and a two-song encore that provided feelings of nostalgia for the fans in attendance.  Laser lights filled the arena as concertgoers sang along to the band’s popular hits, “Never Let You Go”, “Graduate”, and “Jumper”, but the real treat for me was when the group took the stage for their encore.  That’s when they played my two favorite Third Eye Blind songs, “Semi-Charmed Life”, and “How’s It Gonna Be.”  Having won numerous awards throughout their twenty-six year run, Third Eye Blind hasn’t missed a beat.  With the release of their latest album, and the energy and excitement that they brought to the stage during this tour, it’s apparent that Third Eye Blind is cementing their legacy as one of the most popular Alternative Rock bands in history.
