Theo Von Invades Omaha

October 13, 2022 – Holland Performing Arts Center – Omaha, NE

Theo Von is one of the most hilarious entertainers around.  Originally from Covington, Louisiana, Von has done it, and continues to do it all.  He’s a stand-up comedian, successful podcaster, television personality, YouTuber, and actor.

While studying at Louisiana State University in 2000, he was recruited to star in MTV’s reality show, Road Rules: Maximum Velocity Tour, and after that, his career took off.

On Thursday night, October 13, Von brought his stand up comedy show to the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha, Nebraska.  Before Theo took the stage, the crowd was entertained by the comedy stylings of Kenny Garcia, Maddie Smith, and opening act, Cameron Logsdon.

When Logsdon made his way to the stage to open the show, I was pleasantly surprised, because I’ve seen him perform before, and he’s hilarious!  Earlier this year, he was named the Best Comedian in Omaha by the Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards, and rightfully so.  His celebrity impersonations are spot-on, and his comedic videos on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, have garnered millions of views.  He was the perfect choice to open the show.

Wearing a bright red Nebraska Huskers sweatshirt, Maddie Smith was next to the stage, and although she looked sweet and innocent, her comedy was anything but.  She was absolutely hilarious, and had the crowd at the Holland Center in hysterics.  Originally from Buffalo, New York, Smith gained popularity as a cast member of MTV’s “Wild N Out” for numerous seasons.  She’s gone viral on TikTok, and has her own podcast called, “That Time of the WEEK”.

Manhattan, New York, native, Kenny Garcia took the stage next, and from the opening joke, he had the crowd in stitches.  Garcia’s been performing stand-up comedy for over 12 years, and his on-stage energy is contagious.  His set focused on relationships and surviving the pandemic, and the crowd loved it.  He was the perfect person to get the crowd primed for the show’s headliner.

Theo Von made his way to the stage, and the crowd in the Holland Center went wild.  Adorned in a plain black t-shirt, vintage black jeans, and tennis shoes, Theo had us in the palm of his hand from the very start of his set.  This guy is absolutely hilarious.  Most of his act is spent telling stories from his past, and the characters he’s met along the way.  Rather than telling a lot of short jokes, Von takes time to set up a story, and has a knack for describing his experiences so well, you almost feel like you were there.  He’s relaxed and easy-going, but a polished entertainer, whose stories had the crowd laughing hysterically.  At the end of the show, he received a well-deserved standing ovation, because he delivered laugh after laugh.  In an unexpected surprise, I was able to meet Theo after the show, and he was just as cool as you would expect.  He took time to greet his fans, take pictures, and sign autographs.  If you have the chance to see one of his stand-up shows live, do it!  You will not be disappointed.  In the meantime, make sure to check him out on all social media channels, and listen to his podcast, “This Past Weekend”.
