Sunday February 7, 2021 – Raymond James Stadium – Tampa, Florida
Three-time Grammy Award-winning megastar, The Weeknd performed in front of 22,000 screaming fans during the 2021 Super Bowl Halftime Show, and even though it seemed like a sold-out stadium, due to Covid-19 safety measures, the rest of the seats were filled with cardboard cutouts of fans.
Starting out the 14-minute medley was his 2016 smash hit, “Starboy”, and even though there weren’t any other special musical guests, there were plenty of backup dancers, fireworks, and dazzling effects to create an unforgettable performance. It was reported that The Weeknd, real name, Abel Tesfaye, poured $7 million of his own money into the production. Even though there were a few slight sound problems, The Weeknd proved why he’s won 3 Grammy Awards, 5 American Music Awards, 9 Billboard Music Awards, 2 MTV Video Awards, 9 Juno Awards, and an Academy Award nomination. He was a perfect choice for this year’s Super Bowl Halftime show!
