Molchat Doma

February 24, 2025 – Steelhouse – Omaha, NE

Steelhouse in Omaha, Nebraska was the place to be on Monday night, February 24, 2025, as Molchat Doma delivered an unforgettable performance.  I wasn’t too familiar with the band before the show, but to say I was impressed with them would be an understatement.

The band’s name, which translates to “Houses Are Silent,” is a Belarusian post-punk trio that emerged from Minsk in 2017. The group consists of vocalist Egor Shkutko, guitarist and synth player Roman Komogortsev, and bassist and keyboardist Pavel Kozlov.

Their music blends elements of post-punk, new wave, and synth-pop, drawing inspiration from 1980s Russian rock influences.

They self-released their debut album, S krysh nashikh domov (“From the Roofs of Our Houses”), in 2017. Their second album, Etazhi (“Floors”), followed in 2018 and gained significant attention online, amassing millions of listens on platforms like YouTube and Bandcamp.  Their growing popularity led to a contract with the American independent label Sacred Bones Records in 2020, which reissued their earlier works and helped them reach a broader audience.  Currently, they have over three million monthly listeners on Spotify.

The crowd at Steelhouse was electric, and it was clear they were dedicated fans.

From the second the band stepped on stage, they had the crowd hooked. Egor Shkutko owned the moment with his signature deadpan vocals, casually dancing around with that effortlessly cool vibe that just pulled everyone in. The band sounded insane—every synth-heavy beat and moody bassline hit just right, totally drawing the crowd into their dark, hypnotic sound.

The setup was simple, but it worked like a charm. The red and blue lights switched back and forth, setting this super moody, almost dreamlike atmosphere that fit their music perfectly. The energy in the room was wild.  The crowd was full of die-hard fans hanging onto every note. By the end of the night, one thing was clear—Molchat Doma doesn’t just put on a show; they take you on a whole vibe-filled journey. If you get a chance to catch one of their shows, do it, and make sure you check out their latest album, Belaya Polosa!
