June 11, 2024 – Steelhouse – Omaha, NE
Sometimes a concert is more than just good music; it’s an experience you remember for a long time. This was the case on June 11, 2024 when Michael Franti and Spearhead headlined a show at Steelhouse in Omaha, Nebraska as part of their Togetherness Tour.
Kicking off the show was Bombargo, a band that’s all about feel-good vibes and catchy tunes. They’re an independent pop band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and they were formed in 2013. The band consists of Nathan Thoen, Anthony Thoen, Spencer Chiliak, Matt Folkerson, Sammy Lee Folkerson, Connor Newton, and Niall Cubborn. These guys really know how to get a crowd moving! Their infectious energy and groovy beats had everyone dancing right from the get-go. It’s no surprise they’ve been making waves with their upbeat anthems and charismatic stage presence. They have almost 125 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and their latest single, “Pieces of My Heart” is definitely worth checking out. They set the perfect tone for the evening.
Next, we had Stephen Marley, the son of the legendary Bob Marley. Stephen brought a bit of reggae magic to the stage, blending classic reggae rhythms with modern sounds. His set was a beautiful tribute to his father’s legacy while also showcasing his own unique talent. Stephen’s smooth voice and laid-back vibe transported us straight to the islands. Highlights included “Three Little Birds” and “One Love,” which had the audience swaying and singing along.
After a brief intermission and touching video package, Michael Franti and Spearhead took the stage, and the crowd went wild. Franti is known for his positive messages and genre-blending style, and he didn’t disappoint. His performance was an electrifying mix of reggae, hip-hop, funk, and rock. Franti’s energy is infectious – he’s constantly moving, engaging with the audience, and spreading his message of love and unity. He even ventured into the crowd a few times and brought fans on stage, creating a close and personal connection with his fans. Songs like “The Sound of Sunshine” and “Say Hey (I Love You)” were absolute crowd-pleasers.
One of the most touching moments was when Franti spoke about the power of music to bring people together. He’s not just a performer; he’s a true storyteller and activist, and you can feel his passion in every word and note. The night ended on a high note with everyone joining in for a massive sing-along.
If you get the chance to see Michael Franti and Spearhead, don’t miss it!
The night was absolutely perfect with the mix of Bombargo’s energetic start, Stephen Marley’s soulful reggae, and Franti’s dynamic performance. It was a concert that celebrated music, life, and togetherness. Absolutely uplifting and fantastic!
