June 8, 2023 – CHI Health Center – Omaha, NE
On June 8th, the CHI Health Center Arena was filled with anticipation and excitement as Matchbox Twenty took the stage for their highly anticipated Slow Dream tour. The show had been postponed multiple times due to the pandemic, so the crowd was definitely ready to see the People’s Choice Award-winning band perform.
Massachusetts native, Matt Nathanson, opened the show with an amazing set that included samples from AC/DC, Tina Turner, and Whitney Houston. Nathanson opened the set with his smash hit, “Giants”, which was once used as the opening song for Major League Baseball’s World Series. His rendition of “Bill Murray”, a song written about what it would be like to be friends with the famous actor, was absolutely breathtaking. His vocals were spot on, and the sheer emotion he sings with was amazing. His witty banter with the crowd also provided some laughs in between songs. It was the perfect way to kick off the evening!
After a short intermission, the lights dimmed and the crowd erupted in cheers. Matchbox Twenty took the stage and launched into an unforgettable night of music and memories.
From the very first note, it was clear that the band was in top form. Frontman Rob Thomas commanded the stage with his powerful vocals and undeniable charisma. The band’s energy was infectious, and it resonated with the audience from start to finish.
The setlist was a perfect blend of new songs and beloved classics, keeping fans both nostalgic and eager for what was to come. Hits like “Bent,” “3AM,” and “Unwell” had the entire arena singing along at the top of their lungs, reliving the moments that made Matchbox Twenty a household name. Each song was performed with precision and passion, showcasing the band’s musicianship and tight-knit chemistry.
One standout moment for me was an amazing acoustic version of “If You’re Gone.” The crowd hung onto every word as Thomas poured his heart and soul into the performance. The crowd was captivated, swaying in unison, caught in a collective moment of introspection.
Another highlight of the evening was the band’s interaction with the audience. Thomas engaged with fans, sharing stories and anecdotes that added a personal touch to the concert experience. It was evident that Matchbox Twenty genuinely appreciates their fans and cherishes the connection they have built over the years.
The production value of the Slow Dream tour was top-notch. The stage design was visually stunning, incorporating intricate lighting and video elements that complemented the music beautifully. The sound quality was exceptional too!
As the night drew to a close, Matchbox Twenty left the stage with a sense of gratitude and satisfaction. The crowd, however, was left wanting more. The band returned for a 4-song encore, kicking off with an explosive performance of “3 A.M.”, that had everyone on their feet, singing and dancing along.
Matchbox Twenty’s Slow Dream tour in Omaha was a resounding success. The band’s unwavering talent, combined with their ability to connect with the audience, created an unforgettable concert experience. Matchbox Twenty proved once again why they are considered one of the greatest alternative rock bands of their generation. They have over 6.5 million listeners on Spotify, and their new album, “Where the Light Goes”, is definitely worth a listen. If you ever have the opportunity to see them live, don’t hesitate. It’s a musical journey you won’t want to miss!
