October 23, 2025 – Steelhouse – Omaha, NE
Thursday night, October 23, 2025, at Steelhouse Omaha in downtown Omaha was the place to be — and for very good reason. Headliners Lord Huron brought their 2025 tour to town, and it was nothing short of amazing.
The evening kicked off with an excellent opener: Kevin Morby. Morby, formerly of the bands Woods and The Babies, has been grinding his way through the indie-rock/folk world since his solo debut back in 2013. While he may not be plastered all over mainstream charts, he’s certainly respected in his lane — he’s been nominated three times for the Libera Award for Best American Roots Record. He racks up over 660,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and his latest single, “You Found Me,” is definitely worth adding to your playlist. On stage his voice and guitar cut through Steelhouse with crisp clarity, and his set offered that perfect tone-setter energy — cool, collected, yet brimming with the promise of what was to come.
After a short intermission, the room dimmed and the atmosphere shifted. Before the first note of Lord Huron hit, you could already feel the anticipation. The set design stole the show just as much as the music: large rocky sculptures flanked the stage, a massive video screen loomed behind, and tucked off to one side sat an old-fashioned phone booth. It was cinematic, moody, and immersive.
Then the band took the stage — Ben Schneider (vocals/guitar), Mark Barry (drums), Miguel Briseño (bass/keys/theremin) and Tom Renaud (guitar) — the full quartet. The crowd erupted. Lord Huron, who currently have over 33.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify, obviously know what they’re doing.
The band debuted in 2010 out of Los Angeles, though Schneider himself is originally from Michigan, and they’ve developed this rich, story-telling sound that blends indie folk, rock, surf and soundtrack vibes. Their song “The Night We Met” went platinum and became a massive hit after inclusion in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. More recently, they earned a No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart with “Nothing I Need” (their second to do so) — major proof they’re more than just a cult indie band. And yes, their newest album The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 dropped in July 2025, so checking that is a must.
As for the show, the music and theatrics worked beautifully together. The stage haze mingled with the mood lighting, the video screen flashed sweeping visuals that mirrored the epic Americana-meets-space-oddity vibe of their sound, and the large rock props made you feel like you’d been transported into a Lord Huron world. During songs like “Wait By the River” (yes, they played it) and deeper cuts from the new album, moments of pure immersion hit: you forgot you were in downtown Omaha for a moment, and you were on some dusty trail or cosmic frontier.
Ben’s vocals soared, Miguel’s theremin and keys added unexpected texture, Mark’s drums gave precision, and Tom’s guitar layered the whole thing in cool soundscapes. The setlist mixed the fan-favorites, new material, and a few surprises sprinkled in for die-hards.
It was a fantastic show. If you haven’t yet, definitely dive into The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 — the live energy you heard translates beautifully into their latest record.
