Ice Cube & Cypress Hill Light Up Lincoln

August 25, 2022 – Pinnacle Bank Arena – Lincoln, NE

On Thursday night August 25, 2022, the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, played host to a concert of epic proportions.  The lineup included some of the most iconic names in the Hip Hop / Rap game.  Ying Yang Twins, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Cypress Hill, and Ice Cube all put on a great show and gave fans in attendance their money’s worth.

The show kicked off with Ying Yang Twins, a Hip Hop/Crunk duo comprised of Kaine and D-Roc.  These guys were a lot of fun, had great energy, and performed all of their iconic hits including, “Salt Shaker”, “Badd”, “What’s Happenin’”, and “Wait (The Whisper Song).”  They have over 1.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and have been entertaining fans since their debut in 2000.  I wasn’t cleared to take photos of the group, but fortunately, I was right up front for their set.  Ying Yang Twins were the perfect choice to get the party started and set the stage for the rest of the night.

Up next was Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and they delivered a solid set including all of their hits like, “1st of the Month”, “I Tried”, and “Tha Crossroads.”  The group consists of Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone.  The crowd loved these guys, and even though they’ve been actively performing since 1991, they don’t show any signs of slowing down.  The group has over 3.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, has been nominated for numerous awards, and has won two American Music Awards, a Grammy Award, and a Soul Train Music Award.  I wasn’t given photo clearance for their set, but I managed to snap a few photos with my cell phone to help me remember the experience.  This was my second time seeing them live, and they were awesome.

After a brief intermission and resetting of the stage, it was time for the first headliner, Cypress Hill.  Joined onstage with a massive inflatable skeleton with a blunt in its hand named “Dr. Green Thumb”, Cypress Hill lead singer, B-Real took the stage.  He was decked out in all camouflage with dark sunglasses, black baseball hat, and had a lit blunt in his hand!  The crowd came alive as B-Real was eventually joined on stage with Sen Dog, the other group’s vocalist.  Eric Bobo on the drums was fantastic, and the group also had a live DJ.  The group has been entertaining fans since 1988, and currently has over 5.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.  They’ve been nominated for 3 Grammy Awards, have won a Billboard Music Award, and are on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  They put on a great performance, but I think they were running short on time because they ended up cutting one of my favorite songs, “Rock Superstar.”  The group finished strong with their iconic hit, “Insane In the Brain”, and a cover of House of Pain’s, “Jump Around.”  The crowd loved these guys!

After a brief pause to reset the stage, O’Shea Jackson, better known as Ice Cube, hit the stage, and the crowd erupted.  Performing and producing music since 1986, Cube has done it all.  He’s had a successful music career, and has also appeared in numerous tv shows and films.  He’s won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award, a MECCA Movie Award, a VH1 Hip Hop Honors Award, a BET Hip-Hop Award, a BET Honors Award, and has over 13.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.  He was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 as a member of N.W.A.  His set included some of his iconic hits like, “Check Yo Self”, and “You Can Do It.”  Much like when Cypress Hill was performing, clouds of smoke filled the arena, and concertgoers were on their feet, singing, dancing, and waiving their cell phones in the air.  Ice Cube, his DJ, and guest rapper, performed for just over 90 minutes, and gave the crowd an awesome show.  Ice Cube was in great spirits, and had great energy throughout his set.  If you have the chance to see him live, do it!  You won’t be disappointed.
