Heartland Pride Brings the Fun

July 16, 2022 – CHI Health Center – Omaha, NE

On Saturday July 16th, at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, Heartland Pride hosted their annual festival, and the entertainment was fantastic.  The show was hosted by Candis Cayne, who’s best known for her recurring role as the Fairy Queen on the fantasy series, The Magicians, and Arisce Wanzer, a beautiful transgender model who’s appeared in Elle, Vogue, Vogue Italia, Forbes, and Purple. The duo played well off each other and were a lot of fun. The headliners for the show were Carmit & The Pussycat Boys, Lady Bunny, Price Poppycock, Thelma Austin, Derrick Barry, Nina Sky, and Thelma Houston.  

Rounding out the show’s entertainment were drag entertainers, most of them title holders, from Omaha and the surrounding areas.  These entertainers didn’t come to play.  Each of them pulled out their best performances, perfectly crafted music mixes, and dazzling costumes.  For me, one of the things that’s so fun about the Heartland Pride Festival, is seeing the younger crowd and how excited they are to be there.  Their faces literally light up when the entertainers take the stage, and year after year, Heartland Pride provides a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals to be themselves and celebrate.
