Wednesday night, August 21, 2024, was an unforgettable night of rock music as the CHI Center hosted four incredible bands.  Thousands of fans packed the arena to witness Five Finger Death Punch, Marilyn Manson, Slaughter to Prevail, and The Funeral Portrait, and they definitely got their money’s worth!

The night kicked off with a bang as The Funeral Portrait delivered a short but powerful set.

The Atlanta-based band, known for their unique mix of post-hardcore and theatrical rock, brought an electrifying energy to the stage that captivated the audience from the start.

Lee Jennings, the lead vocalist, commanded the stage with his powerful voice and magnetic presence. Every word he sang felt charged with emotion, drawing the crowd into the band’s dark, gripping narratives. The crowd’s energy matched the band’s, creating a powerful connection that defined the five-song set.

The band has over 330 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and their latest release, “Blood Mother,” is definitely worth checking out.  Great way to start the show!

Next to the stage was Slaughter to Prevail, and these guys kicked it up a notch!

Seeing these guys live is like being hit by a sonic freight train. The Russian deathcore band, led by the intense Alex Terrible, knows how to bring the heavy sounds, and their set was nothing short of brutal—in the best way possible.

Formed in 2014, Slaughter to Prevail has made a name for themselves with their crushing riffs, guttural vocals, and dark, aggressive sound. The band is known for songs like “Demolisher” and “Baba Yaga,” both of which they delivered with ferocious energy during their set.

The crowd was wild from the first note, moshing and screaming along with every growl and breakdown.

Alex Terrible, known for his deep, monstrous vocals, was a dominating presence on stage. The band wore their signature masks, adding to their menacing aura, and their musicianship was top-notch, with blistering guitar work and thunderous drumming that kept the energy high throughout their set.

If you’re into heavy music, Slaughter to Prevail is a band you need to see live. Their set was intense, chaotic, and incredibly satisfying for everyone in attendance.  They even treated us to an amazing cover of Ramstein’s “Du hast!”

Slaughter to Prevail currently has over 1.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and their latest release, “Kid of Darkness” is definitely worth adding to your deathcore playlist!

After a brief intermission, it was time for Marilyn Manson!

Known as the “God of Fuck,” Manson has been a controversial and influential figure in rock music since the early ’90s, and his set was every bit as theatrical as you’d expect.

From the moment he stepped on stage, it was clear that Manson still knows how to command a crowd. His performance was a wild mix of music, theatrics, and provocative imagery, true to the persona he’s cultivated over the years. With hits like “The Beautiful People” and “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” Manson took the audience on a journey through his career, which spans over three decades.

Manson’s band, originally formed in 1989, has seen numerous lineup changes, but the current members brought a tight, aggressive sound that perfectly complemented his dark, raspy vocals.

The set was a blend of his older classics and tracks from his more recent albums, but each song was accompanied by elaborate stage effects—think eerie lighting, smoke, and Manson’s signature black leather outfit.

Manson’s voice and stage presence remain as powerful as ever. He engaged with the crowd in his typical rebellious style, making sure everyone was fully immersed in the experience.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or just curious, seeing Marilyn Manson live is something you won’t forget anytime soon. His shows are as much about the atmosphere and performance as they are about the music, creating a unique experience that’s both captivating and a little disturbing—just as he intends it to be.
