December 28, 2021 – Orpheum Theater – Omaha, NE
Finally, after a lengthy delay due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the on-stage version of, Dear Evan Hansen, made its way to Omaha’s Orpheum Theater! The show ran for a week, but I was fortunate enough to be there on opening night, Tuesday December 28th.
Although I wanted to see the movie version of Dear Evan Hansen, I never got around to it, so I was extremely excited to cover this show.
From what I could see, the show was nearly sold out, and everyone in the crowd seemed just as eager to see the production as I was.
The stage was equipped with moving set pieces, awesome lighting, and really cool video screens which really added to the ambience during the show.
Going into the show with no expectations, I can honestly say that I was blown away.
The cast was phenomenal, the music was amazing, and the message the show delivers is one of hope, compassion, and awareness. It was an emotional rollercoaster that left me inspired.
The cast for this performance included:
Stephen Christoper Anthony as Evan Hansen
Ciara Alyse Harris as Alana Beck
John Hemphill as Larry Murphy
Matthew Edward Kemp as Jared Kleinman
Stephanie La Rochelle as Zoe Murphy
Nikhil Saboo as Connor Murphy
Jessica E. Sherman as Heidi Hansen
Kelsey Venter as Cynthia Murphy
In the starring roll of Evan Hansen, Stephen Christopher Anthony delivered an unforgettable performance. His vocals were on point, and his facial expressions were amazing. To me, Anthony’s vocals remind me of the Grammy Award-winning duo, A Great Big World. He delivered the kind of performance that literally touches your soul, and it was powerful!
Combined with talented performers and musicians, it’s no wonder why the broadway version of Dear Evan Hansen has garnered a Tony Award for Best Broadway Musical.
If you have the chance, take your friends and family with you to see this amazing production.
5 Stars all the way around!
