Cirque Musica: Holiday Wonderland 2024

December 3, 2024 – Holland Performing Arts Center – Omaha, NE

When I heard Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland was coming to town, I was very excited because I’ve been to the production three times, and it’s always fantastic.

The show is festive and family-friendly and combines the thrill of circus acts with the magic of holiday music, creating a spectacular celebration of the season. The production is an annual holiday tradition that brings together world-class circus performers and a live band to create an immersive experience for all ages.

The show features a mix of jaw-dropping acrobatics, aerial stunts, juggling, and a little comedy, all set to a festive soundtrack of beloved Christmas classics. Think The Nutcracker meets Cirque du Soleil, but with a holiday twist. The performers—who often come from international circus troupes—show off their incredible skills while interacting with a vibrant and colorful set that transforms the stage into a winter wonderland. Between the high-flying acrobatics, the band plays live music, including holiday hits like “Jingle Bells,” “Silent Night,” and “Deck the Halls.”

Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland first hit the stage in 2015 and has been a hit ever since, touring around the U.S. during the holiday season. This was my fourth time seeing the show and it truly has something for everyone.  Whether you’re there to marvel at the acrobats or just to enjoy the festive vibes, the production delivers a sense of wonder and joy that makes it a beloved part of many people’s holiday traditions.

The show has evolved over the years, incorporating new acts, more elaborate costumes, and an even bigger, more stunning set, but at its core, it’s all about celebrating the magic of the holidays through a combination of awe-inspiring performances and holiday tunes.

From the moment the show started, the audience was transported into this magical winter wonderland. The stage is beautifully lit, with snowflakes, twinkling lights, a large video screen, and a set that makes you feel like you’re in a holiday postcard. The live band was fantastic—they played all the Christmas classics, from “Jingle Bells” to “Silent Night”—and honestly, the music alone gives you all the warm, fuzzy holiday feels.

The performers were absolutely incredible.  These folks are professionals, and they make it look effortless (even though I know it’s anything but). There’s also an element of comedy too—there’s a clown that really knows how to get the crowd laughing, which adds a nice touch of humor to balance out all the intensity of the performances.

What I love about Holiday Wonderland is that it’s not just for the thrill-seekers or circus fans—it’s for families. The show has a little bit of everything. The kids in the audience were totally mesmerized by the acrobatics, and I think the adults had just as much fun watching the artistry and the beautiful music. It’s heartwarming in all the best ways, and you leave with a smile, feeling like you’ve just experienced something really special.

If you’re looking for a fun, festive, and family-friendly way to get into the holiday spirit, Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland is totally worth it. It’s the kind of show that makes you feel like you’re part of the magic of the season. Definitely recommend checking it out if it’s in town!
