Blues Traveler Rocks Omaha

September 15, 2024 – Steelhouse – Omaha, NE

On September 15, 2024, Blues Traveler brought their 30 Years of Four Tour to Steelhouse in Omaha, Nebraska, delivering an unforgettable night of music.

If you’re not familiar with them, Blues Traveler is a rock band formed in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1987. Known for their unique blend of blues, rock, and jam-band style improvisation, they hit it big in the mid-90s with their album Four, which featured the chart-topping hits “Run-Around” and “Hook.” “Run-Around” became their signature song, winning a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1996.

Fronted by harmonica virtuoso John Popper, the band has gained a reputation for their energetic live performances and extended jams, making them a staple of the jam-band scene alongside acts like Phish and Widespread Panic. Over the years, they’ve released numerous albums and toured extensively, building a loyal fanbase that appreciates their improvisational style and diverse musical influences. Despite changes in the lineup and challenges along the way, Blues Traveler continues to record and tour, celebrating over three decades in the industry.  They currently have over 1.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.

From the moment they hit the stage, we knew we were in for something special.  This show was an awesome mix of nostalgia and pure musicianship. The band wasted no time diving into their classics, and the crowd went wild when “Run-Around” started. It was like a big singalong, and you could feel how much that song still resonates with fans.

What really stood out was their improvisational flair. They stretched songs into extended jams, giving each band member a moment to shine, and it felt like they were playing just for the people in the room. Popper’s harmonica solos were mind-blowing—he makes that tiny instrument sound massive.

The vibe was super laid-back, like you were at a backyard party with incredible live music. They threw in a couple of deep cuts, which hardcore fans loved, but kept it balanced with the hits.

Blues Traveler has this rare ability to make a large venue like Steelhouse feel intimate, and even after decades of playing together, they’re still having fun on stage. If you ever get the chance to see them live, don’t miss it—it’s a good time from start to finish!
