Wednesday August 18, 2021 – CHI Health Center – Omaha, NE

After his Omaha concert was canceled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Blake Shelton packed the CHI Health Center on Wednesday night August 18, 2021, and for Country music fans, it was well worth the wait.

In addition to the headliner, Shelton’s “Friends & Heroes Tour” featured opening act, Lindsay Ell, and Country music superstars, Tracy Byrd, Martina McBride, and Trace Adkins.  The crowd of over 14,000, was also treated to a surprise appearance by Shelton’s wife, Gwen Stefani!

Since the pandemic, this was the first big show at the CHI Health Center, and it was amazing!  Shelton had great energy, and was all smiles throughout the show.  He interacted with the crowd and seemed genuinely happy to be there.  Concertgoers sang along to almost every song, held lighters in the air, and danced all night.

One of the things I enjoyed about this show is that it had the perfect mix of older songs and newer songs.  Fans got taken on a journey through the years, and a lot of the songs that were played brought back a lot of great memories.

After an incredible set by Canadian native Lindsay Ell, which got the crowd on their feet and primed for the main acts, Shelton took the stage, and the crowd went wild.  After about 45 minutes, Shelton was joined onstage by Country music legend, Tracy Byrd.  Byrd got a great reaction from the crowd, and ended his set with his 90’s hit, “Watermelon Crawl.”  Shelton performed another few songs, including an incredible cover of Michael Bublé’s, “Home”, and was joined onstage by Academy of Country Music Award-Winner for Best Female Vocalist, Martina McBride.  McBride looked great, and treated fans to a few of her smash hit songs, including an emotionally-charged version of, “Independence Day.”  This was definitely one of the highlights of the show for me.

Shelton shared a story with the crowd about how he had been practicing a few songs on his guitar during the pandemic, and much to the audience’s surprise, his wife Gwen Stefani made an appearance!  As the crowd cheered on in disbelief, Stefani performed, “Don’t Speak”, made famous by her group No Doubt, followed by two duets with her husband.  This was an unexpected treat, and the crowd loved every second of it.

Before long, Shelton was joined onstage by the last of the special guests, multi-Country Music Award winner, Trace Adkins.  Adkins seemed to have the most time out of all the special guests, and even performed two duets with Shelton.  The highlight of his set for me was hearing, “You’re Gonna Miss This”, which won the American Country Music Award for Single of the Year in 2009.

After heading to the middle of the arena onto a smaller round stage, Blake Shelton was joined by Tracy Byrd, Martina McBride, and Trace Adkins to close out the show with a phenomenal song circle.  The group sang together until each artist was given the chance to sing one of their hit songs, in a friendly competition set up by Shelton.  This was absolutely amazing!

Blake Shelton closed out the night with his encore – an incredible rendition of, “God Gave Me You”

Blake Shelton is one of the most successful and recognized Country music artists today, selling over 10 million albums, and selling out arenas wherever he goes.  He’s been nominated for 8 Grammy Awards, and has won countless Country Music Awards.  If you have the chance to see him live, do it!  You will not be disappointed!
