Barenaked Ladies: 2024 In Flight Tour

On Wednesday night September 18, 2024, the Pinewood Bowl in Lincoln, Nebraska, played host to Barenaked Ladies’ 2024 In Flight Tour. The evening kicked off with Toad the Wet Sprocket, who opened the show with their signature melodic sound, setting the stage for an unforgettable night.

Toad the Wet Sprocket is a band formed in 1986 in Santa Barbara, California. Known for their melodic sound and introspective lyrics, they gained popularity in the early ’90s with hits like “All I Want,” “Something’s Always Wrong,” and “Walk on the Ocean.” Their music blends elements of alternative rock and folk, and they became a staple on college radio during their rise.

Their 1991 album Fear was a major success, reaching platinum status and solidifying their place in the ’90s music scene. While they took a hiatus in the late ’90s, they reunited in the early 2000s and have continued to tour and release new music, including their 2013 album New Constellation and their 2021 album Starting Now.

They have over 592 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

Bathed in a kaleidoscope of colored lights and accompanied by a massive video screen displaying captivating graphics, the band captured the audience’s attention from the very beginning.  The vibe was warm and inviting, and their blend of melodic rock and heartfelt lyrics created a cozy atmosphere, making it feel like you were hanging out with old friends.

They kicked things off with “Come Down,” and the crowd immediately started singing along. It was incredible to hear those familiar tunes live—every note felt like a shared memory. Glen Phillips’ vocals were on point, and the band’s chemistry was evident as they seamlessly transitioned between songs.

They also threw in some deeper cuts that fans appreciated, showcasing their versatility and growth over the years. The energy in the amphitheater  was great, and the way they interacted with the audience made their set feel truly special.

After a brief intermission, it was time for Barenaked Ladies!

In case you’re unfamiliar, Barenaked Ladies is a Canadian rock band formed in 1988 in Scarborough, Ontario. Over the years, they’ve become a beloved staple in the music scene, blending rock, pop, and folk influences into their unique sound.

The band gained widespread fame in the ’90s with hits like “One Week,” “If I Had $1,000,000,” and the theme song for The Big Bang Theory. Their album Stunt reached multi-platinum status and showcased their ability to craft infectious melodies. While Steven Page left the group in 2009 to pursue a solo career, the remaining members continued to thrive, releasing new music and touring.

Barenaked Ladies have received several accolades, including Juno Awards and a Grammy nomination. Their enduring appeal lies in their ability to evolve while maintaining their signature humor and charm. After all these years, these guys still know how to put on a show!  It was like stepping into a feel-good party from the moment they hit the stage! The band brought an infectious energy to the Pinewood Bowl, and the crowd was instantly engaged. They kicked things off with “One Night,” and everyone was singing along—there’s something about that song that just makes you smile.

Ed Robertson’s banter with the audience was hilarious and made the show feel like a casual hangout with friends. The mix of their classic hits and newer tracks kept the vibe fresh, and when they played “If I Had $1,000,000,” the whole crowd erupted in cheers.
