Album Review: Shawn Mendes – Illuminate

Illuminate is the second studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes. The album showcases Mendes’ growth as an artist and features a more mature sound than his debut album, Handwritten.

The album opens with the lead single, “Treat You Better”, a catchy pop song that highlights Mendes’ strong vocal abilities. The track is followed by “Mercy”, a powerful ballad that showcases Mendes’ ability to convey emotion through his music. Other standout tracks on the album include “Ruin”, a hauntingly beautiful track with a captivating melody, and “Three Empty Words”, a heartfelt ballad that showcases Mendes’ songwriting skills.

One of the strengths of Illuminate is the variety of styles and moods that Mendes explores throughout the album. From upbeat pop tracks like “No Promises” and “Lights On” to more introspective ballads like “Understand” and “Patience”, Mendes displays a versatility and depth that sets him apart from many of his contemporaries.

The production on the album is also impressive, with each track featuring lush instrumentation and polished soundscapes. The album also features collaborations with other artists, including the duet “Like This” with Camila Cabello, which was a fan favorite.

Overall, Illuminate is a strong sophomore effort from Shawn Mendes. The album showcases his growth as an artist and his ability to convey emotion through his music. With its mix of catchy pop tracks and introspective ballads, Illuminate is a well-rounded album that is sure to please fans of Mendes’ music.
