July 21, 2024 – CHI Health Center – Omaha, NE

On Sunday night July 21, 2024, thousands of fans packed the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska for AJR’s, “The Maybe Man Tour,” and they definitely got their money’s worth!

Kicking off the night’s entertainment was almost monday, a fun, energetic indie pop band hailing from San Diego, California. The band consists of Dawson Daugherty, Cole Clisby, and Luke Fabry – all friends from high school in San Diego’s North County.

Their first single, “Broken People,” dropped in spring of 2019, and hit number 27 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay charts. They released “Come On Come On” in May of 2020, followed by their debut EP, Don’t Say You’re Ordinary, in October.  In January of 2021, they put out “Live Forever,” and in 2022, they dropped “Sunburn” and “Sun Keeps on Shining.” That year, they toured with Joywave and The Driver Era and released “Cough Drops” in October.  After wrapping up their North American tour, they released “Only Wanna Dance” in February of 2023.

Now, the group is opening up for AJR, and they’re killing it.  The guys have great energy and amazing stage presence.  With over 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, they seem to be just getting started.  Their latest single, “Tidal Wave” is definitely worth adding to your playlist.  What a great way to start the night!

Next to the stage was mxmtoon, a cool and captivating singer-songwriter and YouTuber. Her music is known for its honest, emotional lyrics and often features her ukulele. She dropped her first EP, Plum Blossom, in 2018 and followed it up with her debut album, The Masquerade, in September 2019. She released the twin EPs Dawn and Dusk in 2020 and her second album, Rising, came out in May of 2022.

mxmtoon started sharing her music online secretly in 2017, but her growing fanbase made it hard to keep under wraps. Besides making music, she’s active on Twitch, has a podcast, and has even put out two graphic novels.

Even though the CHI Center was packed with thousands of people, her performance was like a cozy hangout with a close friend. She had this super chill, down-to-earth energy that made everyone feel right at home, but her energy was off the charts! Her ukulele tunes were spot on, and her emotionally raw lyrics really hit home.

She opened with a couple of tracks from her Rising album, and the crowd was totally into it, singing along to every word. Her storytelling between songs was so relatable and funny, making the whole set feel personal and intimate.

The setlist included some of her old favorites like “prom dress” and “fever dream,” which got a huge reaction from the audience. She even did a sweet acoustic version of a couple of tracks that made the whole place feel like a warm hug.

The visuals and lighting were simple but really complemented the mood of her music. Plus, her interactions with the crowd were genuinely heartfelt. As her set progressed, the energy from her and her band picked up, and the pulsating beats had the crowd on their feet!  If you get a chance to see mxmtoon live, definitely go for it—it’s like hanging out with an old friend who just happens to be super talented!  Plus, her faster tracks are perfect for any party!

After a brief intermission, it was time for AJR!

AJR is a band from New York City made up of three brothers—Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met. They’re known for their quirky, genre-blending sound that mixes pop, indie, and electronic elements. Their music is catchy and often features clever lyrics and a lot of upbeat energy. They first gained attention with hits like “I’m Ready” and “Weak,” and they’ve continued to build their fanbase with albums like The Click, OK ORCHESTRA, and The Maybe Man, which was released in 2023.  They have over 8.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and it’s easy to see why.  These guys are a blast to watch!

From the moment they took the stage, the brothers were on fire. They kicked things off with a bang, and the crowd was electric right from the first note. Their energy was infectious, and they had everyone dancing and singing along the whole time.

Adam, Jack, and Ryan really know how to work a crowd too. They threw in a mix of their biggest hits like “Bang!” and “Sober Up,” which had the place absolutely buzzing. There were some really cool visual effects, a huge video screen, cool pre-taped video effects, lights, lasers, and quirky stage props that made the show even more entertaining. The guys even invited a few fans onstage and partook in an impromptu spin the wheel game and Ryan lookalike spot, and later on in the show, they actually performed IN the audience!

One of the highlights for me was when they played “Weak”—the whole crowd was singing along, and it felt like one big, happy party. They even did some fun acoustic versions of a few songs that showed off their musical chops. The brothers interacted with the audience a lot, sharing funny stories and making everyone feel involved. It was like one huge musical celebration!

If you’re into high-energy performances and catchy tunes, AJR’s live show is a must-see. It’s not just a concert; it’s a party that leaves you with a big smile on your face. Make sure to check out their latest album The Maybe Man, and I dare you not to hit repeat on, “Yes I’m A Mess!”
